Visionary Philanthropist Honored with Athletic Field Dedication

Jean Lenox West ’57, ’95H, one of Arcadia University’s most storied student-athletes and a devoted alumna, was honored on April 8, 2017, for her distinguished achievements and philanthropic leadership with the dedication of the Jean Lenox West Field. The Field celebrates her generosity in remembering the University in her estate plan and ensures her legacy will continue to shape the lives of countless students and inspire the Arcadia community.

Jean excelled as a student-athlete, earning All-College honors in field hockey while also starring on the lacrosse and swimming teams. All this was in addition to earning her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. For her accomplishments Jean was named to the inaugural class of inductees in the Arcadia University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. In 1995 she was awarded an honorary degree as a tribute to her volunteer service and exceptional commitment to her alma mater.

Dr. Charles Lentz ’03M, member of the board of trustees, defines the importance of planned gifts and how they significantly impact the student experience. “I see on a daily basis how support like this impacts students,” says Dr. Lentz. “Whether it is to establish a scholarship, fund a student or faculty research project, allow a student to study abroad, or provide state-of-the-art resources, our alumni supporters play a crucial role in student success.”

The significance of the Jean Lenox West Field extends beyond all who cheer on Arcadia’s Knights, take part in activities hosted by the Athletics Department, and enjoy events held year-round in this space. It stands as a testament to Jean’s enduring support that will create esteemed opportunities and enhance Arcadia well into the future.
