Robert Barrows Gift Annuity Funds Programs

Laurie Stassi Barrows ’70 and Robert Barrows The Barrows family’s connection to Arcadia began when Mary Lorraine “Laurie” Stassi Barrows ’70 attended Beaver College as an Early Childhood/Elementary Education major. It continued when their daughter, Meredith Barrows Ogden ’00M, PA, started her graduate studies in the Physician Assistant program.

When Laurie recalls her most formative experiences at Beaver College, she highlights the importance of the mentorship she received from Dr. Linda Turner Moulton—who encouraged Laurie’s love of mathematics and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge. These personalized learning experiences inspired Laurie’s desire to support Arcadia’s students and program.

Laurie and her husband Bob decided to honor their family and Dr. Moulton with a charitable gift annuity, which provides income during their lifetimes and then provides funds to Arcadia through their estate. “This charitable gift annuity has enabled us to provide appreciated stock that helps secure Arcadia’s future in mathematics, computer science, and the Physician Assistant program while also providing scholarships for students with financial need who wish to pursue their education in these fields,” Laurie said.

Laurie and Bob directed their planned gift in several areas. Their gift will establish the Mary Lorraine ’70 and Robert Barrows Endowed Scholarship to support students interested in mathematics, computer science, and the Physician Assistant program. They will also provide funds to equip the computer lab in Boyer Hall, the home of the Computer Science and Mathematics Department. In addition, they sponsored digital access for alumni to a comprehensive database for alumni. Available through the Landman Library, the digital repository serves as an invaluable tool for post-college scholarly pursuits.

For their generosity, Laurie and Bob are recognized among the donors of Arcadia’s Covenant society, which honors the generous alumni, families, and friends who have remembered Arcadia University in their estate plans.

For Laurie and Bob, their generous gift recognizes their family ties to Arcadia while helping future generations pursue their academic studies in mathematics and science programs.
